After the inspiring visit to Rural Development Trust (RDT), Anantpur, Andhra Pradesh, we launched the Hundi Program in the primary and middle school, particularly targeting the 300 agri labor families on 15th August 2014. After the school reopened on 15th June, we asked all the students to come with their Hundis in the school. Except very few students, all have collected an amount ranging from Rs.300 to 1200 each. Sukanya Phulari collected Rs.650/- and Arvind Malge has collected Rs.1150/-.
Out of 300 students, 33 could not collected any amount in the year. The rest, 267 students collected Rs.1,01,320/-. The amount will be utilized to meet their own educational needs. Inspired from the encouraging response, the school has decided to continue this year covering maximum number of students. We experienced that, the
Hundi system encouraged kids to save
regularly. A few students had to save the Hundis from their parents
also. The Hundi has developed a sense of ownership in the students. Last year, the
Hundi made from earth was costly. So, this year, we have decided to use
the empty cold drinks and mineral water bottles of various sizes by re-sealing
it.
